Harbourlight Stories takes the protection of your personal data seriously. This page describes which personal information we handle on novixor.org, for which purposes and which rights PIPEDA and provincial privacy law give you. It applies to everyone who visits the website and to people who contact us by email or through the contact form.
Who is responsible
The organization accountable for the personal information collected on this website is Harbourlight Stories, 214 Ontario Street, Unit 3, Kingston, ON K7L 2Z1, Canada. You can reach us by email at [email protected] or by phone at (613) 400-6864. The policy covers the pages published under novixor.org and the inquiries we receive through them.
Storage periods
Information is kept no longer than its purpose calls for. Once that purpose has been met and no duty to keep it remains, we erase it or remove everything that would link it to you.
Server logs are held by our hosting provider for a short period and are then removed automatically. Correspondence stays with us while the matter is open and for a reasonable time afterwards, in case you come back to the same question.
Data processed on this website
Every page request is recorded on the server together with the address of the requesting device, the time, the file opened and the browser used. This information is needed to deliver the page and to detect faults or misuse.
When you send us a message, we keep what you give us, such as your name, the address for our reply, a telephone number if you add one and the text itself, for as long as the matter you wrote about is being dealt with.
Cookies
We limit cookies and comparable techniques to what the website needs in order to work. No advertising networks, cross-site tracking or profiling tools are used, and a choice you make in a cookie notice is stored only in your own browser.
Stored entries can be reviewed and deleted at any time in the settings of your browser, where you can also block them for the future. Blocking everything may affect the parts of the site that depend on such entries.
Why we process data
The processing serves the operation and security of novixor.org, the handling of the requests you send us, the preparation of offers and the fulfillment of duties that arise from a contract or from the law.
Your consent is the basis of what we do with personal information: it may be express, or implied when you send us a message and expect an answer. We use information for a new purpose only after asking you, except where the law allows or requires it. Providing information is voluntary, but an inquiry without contact details cannot be answered.
Security of processing
We use technical and organizational measures to protect the data we hold against loss, manipulation and access by unauthorized people. The connection to this website is encrypted where your browser supports it.
No transfer of data over the internet can be made entirely safe, so a residual risk remains. Inside Harbourlight Stories, messages are read only by the people who deal with them.
Sharing of data
We do not trade in personal data. It reaches only the companies that keep this site online and handle our email on our behalf, bound by contract to our instructions, and the authorities that are entitled to request it.
Some of these providers may process or store data outside our own country. Where that happens, we make sure that the information receives a comparable level of protection through our contract with the provider, as PIPEDA requires.
Your rights and how to use them
You can ask us at any time which personal information we hold about you, how it is used and to whom it has been disclosed, and ask for it to be corrected or deleted where we no longer need it. Consent that you have given may be withdrawn at any time; the withdrawal applies from then on.
You can use your rights by writing to [email protected]. Before we answer, we may ask for a detail that confirms your identity, so that data is not disclosed to the wrong person; the answer follows within the period the law provides and costs you nothing.
Besides contacting us, you have the right to complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or to the privacy commissioner of your province where provincial law applies.
Changes to this policy
This policy is revised when our processing or the applicable rules change. The current text is always available here, and the date at the top of the page shows when it was last amended.
Each new version replaces the previous one without a separate notice. Where a change concerns processing that depends on your consent, we obtain fresh consent before it applies.
